Overview

The context

Importing a vehicle from Canada to Ghana is a high-stakes process riddled with opacity: buyers struggle to find trustworthy inventory, understand true landed costs, and navigate the customs and clearing process. CheckMyRide.io was built to solve all three a single platform that takes a buyer from discovery to collecting their vehicle at the port.

We built the platform end-to-end: a consumer-facing marketplace with live inventory, a duty and tax calculator pulling from Ghana Revenue Authority rate tables, an ICUMS reference lookup for real cleared-vehicle data, and a full-featured admin CRM to manage leads, listings, agreements, invoices, and the team.

The challenge

The Challenge

The vehicle import market between Canada and Ghana was almost entirely informal buyers relied on word-of-mouth agents with no accountability, no inspection records, and no transparent pricing. Hidden costs at the port regularly left buyers paying 30–50% more than expected, with no recourse.

On the operational side, the CheckMyRide team needed tooling to manage a growing pipeline of buyers across multiple stages from initial enquiry through sourcing, inspection approval, payment, shipping, and clearing without losing any lead or doubling up on work across team members.

Our solution

What We Built

A consumer-facing Next.js marketplace where buyers can browse inspected vehicle listings with full CheckMyRide inspection reports, photos, and transparent landed-cost breakdowns. A duty and tax calculator built against Ghana Revenue Authority rate tables lets buyers estimate import duty, VAT, NHIL/GETFund levies, and ECOWAS levy before they commit. An ICUMS reference lookup surfaces real cleared-vehicle data from Ghana Customs so buyers can cross-check their estimates against actual port data.

Behind the scenes, a full admin dashboard gives the CheckMyRide team a CRM-style pipeline view of every lead with stage tracking, comments, team assignment, and quick actions to send inspection-linked agreements and invoices. Car listing management, document storage, user roles, and a feedback module are all built into the same interface.
